Girls Regional Qualifying Hockey Tournament.at Repton SchoolFriday 20th November.
There were 12 teams in the competition and two sections.
Fairfield came second in their section losing only to Stockport Grammar school, beating Witham Hall 2-0, Warwick 1-0, St Olave's 2-0 and the Downs school 2-0. This gave us a place in the quarter finals against Beachborough who we beat 2-0. to gain a place in the semi-final play-off against Westbourne school who had won their section. Once again Fairfield pulled out all the stops to win 1-0. The final was next playing against Foremarke school who we knew from past experience would give us a hard game. Foremarke quickly went into the lead and put our defence under considerable pressure but were unable to penetrate again, in the final minute Fairfield led an attack which culminated in a backboard breaking goal to finish the match 1-1. To decide the winner 3 penalty strokes were taken, despite our GK saving one of Foremarke's penalty strokes, Fairfield were unable to score and Foremarke went ahead to take the trophy.
Fairfield exceeded all expectations raising both their team and individual perfomance by several levels as the day progressed. This is our best achievement to date in this competition. Four teams including Fairfield will now take part in the National I.A.P.S. Hockey Finals at Queenswood School, Hertfordshire on Wednesday 2nd December. Support for the team would be lovely, we wish them every success.

Year 6 Girls Hockey –Bromsgrove Tournament
On Wednesday 11th November the Year 6 girls went to Bromsgrove School to take part in their annual mini hockey tournament. The girls played some excellent passing hockey and defended the goal area well. The results of the pool matches were as follows:
Fairfield vs Blue Coat School Won 3-0
Fairfield vs Dragon School Won 3-0
Fairfield vs Foremarke Hall Drew 0-0
Fairfield came second in the group and progressed through to the quarter finals where the girls played Cheltenham College (we had same points as Foremarke but a smaller goal difference). It was an even game with Fairfield creating numerous goal scoring opportunities. However, we failed to capitalise on these and the final score was 1-0 to Cheltenham. The overall tournament winners were Foremarke Hall. Well played to all the girls.
On Wed. 4th November Fairfield U11 and U10 teams played at Grace Dieu on grass. Despite a torrential downpour just before the match both teams were eager to start. The U11 team applied pressure to the Grace Dieu defence straight from the whistle scoring two early goals. This gave us the opportunity to try players out in different positions. Caitlin Cannon broke down several of the Grace Dieu attempts at goal with well timed tackles. Our GK Avani only touched the ball twice but kicked the ball with strength and away from the Grace Dieu players. The final score was 2-0 to Fairfield.
The U10 team despite an improvement from their previous match struggled to distribute the ball any distance along the grass. Fairfield had several attempts at scoring but were unable to find the power to finish it off. Grace Dieu to their credit made the most of their opportunities, the final score was 3-0 to Grace Dieu. Good effort by both teams.
Year 6 Boys Hockey Reports A and B Teams
On Monday 2nd November Fairfield hosted Ratcliffe College.
The A team came up against some tough opposition who tackled well and produced some quick breaks of play. However, Fairfield rose to the challenge and played some excellent passing hockey creating some good scoring opportunities. This resulted in a good goal from Jamie Ellis who picked up on a loose ball. The final score was 1-0 to Fairfield.
The B team also played a strong B side from Ratcliffe, who passed the ball well and used the space effectively. Fairfield B also worked hard to create chances in the Ratcliffe D culminating with a good goal from Edward Chad-Smith. Ratcliffe responded with a goal just before half-time and went on to score another goal in the second half. The final score was 2-1 to Ratcliffe.
On Wednesday 7th October four Fairfield hockey teams travelled to Repton to play on their four astro-turfs pitches against Foremarke school. The U 11 ‘A’ Team worked hard individually and absorbed a lot of pressure but were unable to link together the defence and attack, the final score was 0-3. The U11 ‘B’ team passed the ball around their players well and were winning 1-0 at half time, however they were unable to contain Foremarke who came back strongly to win 2-1. The U10 ‘A’ team had a good 1st half and the score was 2-2 but unfortunately their fitness let them down in the 2nd half and the score was 2-9. On a brighter note the U10 ‘B’ team penetrated the Foremarke defence to win 7-0.
On Saturday 3rd October Fairfield girls hockey team played in the Foremarke School Invitational Tournament. There were two sections with four teams in each section. Fairfield played Belper hockey club 1st, this was a closely contested match with both teams having scoring opportunities but the final score was 0-0. In the 2nd match against Foremarke 'B' team, Fairfield again had chances to score but were unable to seize these opportunities. The 3rd match was of great importance and the team had to win to secure a place in the semi-final. Packward Haugh played well but Fairfield fought hard to score in the closing minutes. This gave the team 2nd position in the section and a place as runners-up against the winner, and host team in the opposing section, Foremarke 'A'. This was an extremely tough match and Foremarke were formidable opponents playing excellent hockey dominating down the right wing. Fairfield rose to the challenge defended well and created chances of their own. After full time the score was 1-1 and we played the 'Golden goal ' rule the first team to score. Yet again at the end of time it was still 0-0, penalty stokes were then played. Our G.K. came into her own saving three penalty strokes and fortunately our attacker scored. This gave the team a place in the final against Beeston Hockey Club, the weather conditions at this point were atrocious with both teams struggling against the rain and wind. To their credit Fairfield battled on and in the closing seconds scored a most amazing goal after the ball was crossed from the wing and swept into the back of the net. Thank you to all the parents and family for the great support.

On Wednesday the 30th September Fairfield A+B hockey teams travelled to Rugby to play in the schools invitational tournament. This was the first time Fairfield had been invited to this tournament and the teams were determined to give a good account of themselves. The opposition was strong and it was a steep learning curve for the ‘B’ team, however we were pleased with the improvement the team showed over the afternoon .The ‘B’ teams results:
FF Versus Spratton Hall 0-8
FF Versus St. Anselms ‘B’ 0-3
FF Versus Bablake 0-0
FF Versus FF’A’ 0-5
The ‘A’ Team had moments of great play and scored some excellent goals however the team is aware that they have a great deal to work on to raise their performance. The ‘A’ team results:
FF Versus St. Anselms ‘B’ 1-0
FF Versus Bablake 3-0
FF Versus Spatton Hall 0-2
FF Versus St Anselms ‘A’ 3-0
FF Versus FF ‘B’ 5-0
Overall this gave the team a very creditable second place, losing only to Spratton Hall .
Well done everyone.
On Monday 14th of September the U11 A+B teams set off in the new school mini-bus to Trent College to play against The Elms School in Long Eaton. The opposition was strong and quite a few of their players are involved in club hockey. The „A‟ team showed good attacking skills and penetrated their defence twice to put the ball past their very strong goal keeper. The Elms replied with an excellent short corner leaving the score 2-1 to Fairfield. The „B‟ team played the ball around the pitch well using good passes and creating scoring chances. However, The Elms were very determined and made the most of their shots in attack, the final score was 1-3 to the Elms. This was the first time we had played this fixture and it was a valuable experience for both teams so early in the season. Well played everyone.
