Science is an exciting subject concerned with developing a sense of enquiry and gaining knowledge and understanding of the world. It also provides the children with the opportunity to develop creative and critical thought, to enable understanding of how the world is constructed and how it works.
At Fairfield, Science is taught by class teachers from Reception to Year 3. In Years 4-6, Science is taught in the well-equipped recently refurbished laboratory by a specialist Science teacher.
The curriculum is based on the National Curriculum schemes of work, but is adapted, enhanced and extended to challenge the children at Fairfield. There is constant liaison with science staff at the other Endowed Schools to ensure progression for those remaining at Loughborough.
Enthusiasm for science is maintained by a high content of hands –on practical work, and contact with outside scientific bodies and establishments. Each year group has a program of outside activities.
