RECYCLING AT LES
What we do and where we do it:
Here at LES we are proactive in recycling! We currently have schemes to recycle the following:
Batteries * (within the Main School Offices)
Paper/Cardboard (most classrooms and office areas)
White Goods (via the Estates Department)
Lamps/Tubes (a six-monthly removal contract)
ICT Equipment (an annual collection via Network Services)
Wood/Desks/Chairs (via skips on a regular basis)
Plastic Bottles/ Metal Cans (within the Catering areas)
Glass * (via containers held at all Schools)
* please feel free to bring these small items from home if you do not have a service available to you.
The future:
From September 2010, we will be able to recycle polystyrene – further details will be emailed.
Instead of disposing of wood off-cuts from the workshops into skips, we are proposing to set up a ‘bunker’ located within the Schools (location to be identified) where staff can collect wood free of charge (subject to availability) for their own use e.g. kindling, wood burners, chimeneas.
We are looking into recycling oils from our Catering areas by converting it into bio-diesel.
We have also had a very successful campaign in removing old tungston lamps and replacing them with energy saving lamps.
We have an ongoing campaign to automate the lighting in the schools to save energy wasting.
On a ‘green’ note, we are upgrading the cycle shed at LGS with an extra 25 spaces now that summer is here!
