History

History is about people; it allows us to examine the ways people behave, the ways in which they live and their experiences. At Fairfield our teaching objectives are:

To lay the foundations of historical skills, knowledge and understanding.
To build on the foundations of historical knowledge laid in the earlier years.
To enrich other areas of the curriculum, developing cross curricular links.
To arouse interest in the past.

History continues to thrive at Fairfield and the children enjoy an extensive range of topics developing their investigative skills throughout their time here. Topics covered at Fairfield in the different years are as follows:

Reception: Current Events
Year 1: Toys through the ages
Year 2: Victorians, Great Fire of London, Florence Nightingale
Year 3: Remembrance Day, Romans, Egyptians
Year 4: Vikings, A village study
Year 5: Tudors, Explorers
Year 6: Britain since the 1930's, World War II
